THE FOUNDERS

A silly girl grows up in Tokyo, Japan. She’s different. She thinks outside the box. She gets labeled a troublemaker. She’s 16. She moves to Vancouver, Canada. She likes the freedom to be herself. She likes her new connection to nature. She goes to college. She enters the corporate business world. She dislikes being in the corporate box. She wants to use her creativity. She goes back to school. She becomes an interior designer. She designs for a large restaurant group. She’s 30. She wants more schooling. She moves to Toronto. She’s too cold. She moves to Hawaii. She loves it. She meets a boy.

A goofy boy grows up in Sonoma wine country. He’s different. He doesn’t even know there’s a box to think in. He’s in the country. He fits the city. He’s 18. He goes to college. He wants to use his creativity. He’s 21. He drops out of school. He moves to Los Angeles. He does comedy. He’s 25. He doesn’t like the lifestyle. He wants a family. He starts designing and installing interiors. He wants more schooling. He moves to Hawaii. He’s 27. He meets a girl.

A girl and boy meet in Hawaii. They’re design students. They fall in love. They fall fast. Months pass. They move in together. They love coffee. They graduate together. They move to Canada. They travel around. They move to Japan. They design interiors. Years pass. They travel around. They elope in a hot air balloon over Turkey. They have a baby boy. They need coffee. They get “for real” married in Japan. They move to Los Angeles. They design more. They travel more. They grow ever pickier about good coffee. They want a place with great design. They want a place with excellent coffee. They want a place with space for their son to play. They want a place that has great design, excellent coffee, and space for their son to play. They can’t find that place. They think they could create that place. Years pass. They finally have a huge family wedding. They have it in wine country. They stop in Marin. They fall in love with Marin. They think “Marin would be perfect for that place we dreamed up.” They move to Marin. They go through hell and back to create that place with good design, great coffee, and a place for their son to play. Years pass. They have a baby girl. They finally open that place. They named it Fox & Kit.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Foxes and their offspring, which are called kits, are very playful animals. They love to run, pounce, and roll around. They’re also very attentive and loving parents as well abundantly intelligent and charming beyond measure. Foxes have been included in art and literature for ages. Their images are found decorating ornate details in buildings, gates, and interiors throughout Europe. They are a perfect mix of grace and beauty, friskiness and smarts. They are an animal that embodies so much of what Fox & Kit is and strives to be.
